Distilling Dunjevača

Dunjevača is one of the most popular kinds of Rakija. Dunjevača is produced from quince.

Rakija is collective term for fruit brandy popular in all former Yugoslavian republics, as in other Balkan countries. Different flavors and names are results of different fruits used in production. Šljivovica (plum brandy) is the best known around the world.

In general, in the Balkans, rakija is offered to guests in one’s home as a welcoming gesture.

Rakija is produced commercially, as well as homemade. Bosnia and Herzegovina is among countries where distilling beverage alcohol is legal.

This photo of fermentation tank was taken during distilling process in private home backyard.
